I have several blog posts in the works, but for now here is a quick one about publishing a review with ARLIS/NA Multimedia & Technology!
ARLIS/NA = Art Libraries Society of North America
I'll blog about this in the future, but I've been fairly active with the association with publishing and presenting. While my current position isn't focused on the arts, my bachelor's degree in art history and interest in art librarianship makes this association very relevant to me.
This year they started publishing bi-monthly reviews about various multimedia and technology resources that would be of interest to art and design focused librarians. Reviews are a great way for busy librarians to quickly determine if a resource is worth their time, money, and effort to include in a collection or subject guide. Writing reviews is also great! You get to look closely at an item and think about its usefulness to yourself and others. Also, it looks nice on that CV!
I volunteered and then was chosen to write the review about the conference website for the CUNY Games Festival. This was a perfect subject for me due to my research on video game design students and libraries.
I enjoyed the process of analyzing the website and thinking critically about it for others. I hope I get the chance to write more reviews!
